چکیده

We present a theory for the acoustic force density acting on inhomogeneous fluids in acoustic fields on time scales that are slow compared to the acoustic oscillation period. The acoustic force density depends on gradients in the density and compressibility of the fluid. For microfluidic systems, the theory predicts a relocation of the inhomogeneities into stable field-dependent configurations, which are qualitatively different from the horizontally layered configurations due to gravity. Experimental validation is obtained by confocal imaging of aqueous solutions in a glass-silicon microchip.

Theoretical aspects of microscale acoustofluidics

In this contribution, I summarize some of the recent results within theory and simulation of microscale acoustofluidic systems that I have obtained in collaboration with my students and international colleagues. The main emphasis is on three dynamical effects induced by external ultrasound fields acting on aqueous solutions and particle suspensions: The acoustic radiation force acting on suspen...

Physico-Acoustic Study on Thermal Conductivity of Silver Nanofluid

Low transmission of heat is one of the major problems for heat exchanger fluids in many industrial and scientific applications. This includes cooling of the engines, high power transformers to heat exchangers in solar hot water panels or in refrigeration systems. In order to tackle these problems in thermal industries, nanofluids could play a significant role as excellent heat exchanger materia...

Efficiency Assessment of Acoustic Cabin for Providing Acoustic Comfort in Turbine Unit of a Thermal Power Plant

Background and Objective: A practical method for noise control in environments with different noise sources is designing an acoustic cabin for the workers. In this regard, this study aimed to assess the efficiency of the acoustic cabin in a typical turbine unit of a thermal power plant to provide acoustic comfort. Materials and Methods: Measurement of the noise level and spectrum, as well as v...

ACOUSTICS2008/164 Emergence of the deterministic Green’s function from thermal noise in inhomogeneous solids and fluid-solid structures

] was apparently the first to establish theoretically a simple relation between deterministic Green's function and cross-correlation of fluctuations of wave fields generated by random sources. He used reciprocity considerations to analyze fluctuations of electromagnetic fields. An acoustic counterpart of the Rytov's approach was applied in [O. A. Godin, Emergence of the acoustic Green's functio...

Analysis of Radial Baffle Effects on Acoustic Characteristics of a Combustion Chamber

An efficient finite volume approach has been used to develop a three dimensional Helmholtz acoustic solver for complex geometries. This acoustic solver was utilized to obtain characteristic mode shapes and frequencies of a baffled combustion chamber. An experimental setup, including stationary and moving sensors, has also been used to measure these quantities for the same model combustion chamb...
